Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans, the majority of which ends up in rivers.
Some of this plastic makes its way to ocean garbage patches, where it is caught in a vortex of circulating currents.
If no action is taken, plastic will have an increasing impact on our ecosystems, health and economies.
For this project, we will collaborate with the charity: The Ocean Cleanup (https://theoceancleanup.com/)
.CLEANING THE OCEAN -
The Ocean Cleanup is developing cleanup systems that can clean up the floating plastics caught swirling in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. INTERCEPTING IN RIVERS -
The Ocean Cleanup has developed the first scalable solution to efficiently intercept plastic in rivers before it reaches the oceans.
By tackling 1000 rivers around the world, Ocean Cleanup aim to halt 80% of riverine plastic from entering the oceans in five years from rollout.PLASTIC TRACKER: →CLICK HERE TO TRY←
This map is an educative tool to illustrate the fate of floating plastic 20 years from now, should you lose it today from your location or anywhere else in the world. Where will it go? How probable is it that it will reach the ocean? This tool will give you a possible answer to these questions and show you just how far plastic can travel from its starting point.
